Our favourite lunch spots in Newcastle East

By Amanda Kirkman

We have moved North-West to Mayfield — but as we go we wanted to share some of the amazing cafes, bars and restaurants that have kept us going during the past four years.

Xtraction Espresso

2/38 Bolton St, Newcastle
Best Coffee in Newcastle hands down! Along with this the staff are some of the friendliest you will find in Newcastle. These guys are currently expanding the cafe which we are sad we’ll miss so be sure to support them once it opens.

The Residency Kitchen

43 Bolton St, Newcastle
A newer cafe in town who recently took over from the previous Persian Palace — they have some great coffee and a delicious felafel wrap.

36 Scott Street, Newcastle
Great for a sneaky beer and fish burrito at lunch time when you need to get just that bit further away from the office.

1 Bond Street, Newcastle
When you’ve craving something just a little bit more fancy, Customs is a great place to head for lunch. Grab a table on their back verrandah and watch the ships go by for a long Friday lunch with their delicious house sparkling.

The Falcon

10 Pacific Street, Newcastle
Home of Scott’s favourite cheese burger in Newcastle (and that says a lot!) — head here for the cozy booths, organic wine list, bloody mary’s and beers.

Moor Cafe

33 Hunter Street, Newcastle
Another of our favourite coffee places in the East End directly across from Pacific Park. Visit these guys for some of the nicest barristers in Newcastle and unique food offerings. Bonus points for great dog watching as you sit out the front under the umbrellas.

114 Hunter Street, Newcastle
When you’re short on time these guys stock ready-made wraps, salads and fresh juices that you can grab and go. They also stock all your fruit and veg, eggs and milk.

The Grain Store

64-66 Scott Street, Newcastle
Check out these guys for the perfect after work drinks. They boast a range puzzles, board games and vintage arcade machines to keep you entertained.

The Grain Store

Newcastle Kiosk

Newcastle Beach Pavilion
42 Shortland Esplanade
The beauty of working in Newcastle CBD is the proximity to our beautiful beaches. The Kiosk has great coffee, fantastic wraps and toasties that you can devour whilst watching the waves. Great for a reset during the working day.

140 King Street, Newcastle
Newcastle’s very own ramen and gyoza bar with some delicious Japanese beers both in bottle and on tap. The bright yellow 3D wall makes for great Instagram photos. These guys also offer their own delivery service if you don’t have time to leave the office.

Hello Naomi

175 King Street, Newcastle
The shop is only open Fridays, but when you need a sugar hit this is the place to go. Salted caramel cookies, cupcakes and some of the cutest birthday cakes you’ve ever seen.

Chiefly East

177 King Street, Newcastle
The newest cafe on our list but a great addition to Newcastle! Big, crunchy, chewy baguettes or salads — these guys do our favourite sandwiches in Newcastle. They also have strong filter coffee, picnic baskets and cheese.

The Umbrian

309 Hunter Street, Newcastle
Strong coffee and their unique take on a bacon and egg roll, the ‘egg on the run’, are a perfect way to start your day. The atmosphere here is super cozy thanks to the little Italian touches and beautiful cooks.

The Umbrian

Good Brother Espresso Shop

40 King Street, Newcastle
The iconic orange cafe nestled between a Yoga studio and a surf board shop. These guys do a tasty coffee and some even better lunch and breakfast options. Check out the giant chalkboard next time you’re in as the menu changes regularly.

Where to grab those Friday afternoon beers for the office.
